Die First Brotherhood ist das Gedächtnis des Orden. Sie führt die Aufzeichnungen dessen, was geschah — oder besser gesagt, was getan wurde, damit es nicht geschah. Sie sind die Hüter der Protokolle, die Verwahrer jener Einsätze, die gelöscht werden müssen, und der Namen jener Brüder, die gefallen sind, ohne dass die Imperium der Menschheit von ihrem Opfer weiß.
Under Großmeister Damaskos Naga, einem Veteranen von drei Jahrhunderten, ist die Bruderschaft in den letzten zwanzig Jahren der Wiederherstellung unterzogen worden. Schwere Verluste bei der Verfolgung der Khorne-Jagdhunde haben ihre Stärke auf siebenundneunzig reduziert — neun unter der Sollzahl. Sie operiert aus einem abgesetzten Außenposten im Saturnin-System, entfernt vom Hauptquartier auf Titan. Die Brüder sind ausnahmslos Psyker. Sie kämpfen in Terminatorrüstung und Paladinen-Ordnung. Sie werden nicht ersetzt aus lokalen Quellen. Jeder Verlust wird notiert, und jede Lücke wird von Titan gefüllt — oder bleibt ungefüllt, bis das Imperium es sich leisten kann, einen weiteren Bruder zu missen.
2. HERKUNFT UND STELLUNG
Die First Brotherhood steht nicht an der Spitze der acht Bruderschaften im Sinne eines Befehls. Großmeister Damaskos Naga ist einer von acht Gleichgestellten unter dem Obersten Großmeister — ein Schachfeld neben den anderen sieben, nicht ein Kommandant über sie. Seine Bruderschaft unterscheidet sich durch eine einzige Aufgabe: Sie sind die Hüter der Erinnerung.
In den ersten Jahrtausenden nach der Gründung, noch während die Horus-Häresie die Galaxis zerriß, wurden Protokolle gelegt. Die First Brotherhood führte an, was andere Bruderschaften taten. Sie dokumentieren nicht für die Nachwelt — es gibt keine Nachwelt für diese Dinge — sondern um zu verhindern, dass Fehler zweimal begangen werden. Ein Bruder der First Brotherhood kennt jeden Dämonen, dem seine Bruderschaft je begegnet ist. Er kennt die Namen der Psyker, die gefallen sind. Er weiß, welche Warpstürme gelogen haben und welche Ritualpfade zu Toten führten.
Das macht sie zu den einzigen Brüdern, die etwas zweimal wissen: einmal, wenn es geschieht, und noch einmal, wenn sie nachschlagen, ob es bereits geschah.
Der Ordo Malleus ruft die First Brotherhood ungern auf. Sie kämpfen nicht schneller oder wütender als andere — sie kämpfen nur mit einer Erinnerung, die die Feinde nicht haben. Die meisten Inquisitoren bevorzugen die Purifiers, deren Flammen schneller sind. Aber der Oberste Großmeister sendet die First Brotherhood auf Jagden, von denen eine zweimalige Wiederholung den Orden hätte vernichten können. Sie sind nicht das Schwert des Ordo Malleus. Sie sind sein Archiv.
Die First Brotherhood kämpft nicht in Schwadronnen wie andere Ordensformationen. Sie nimmt keine Codex-Astartes-Struktur an. Sie besteht aus etwa hundert Brüdern — nicht mehr, nicht weniger, seit zehn Jahrtausenden — und jeder Verlust wird von Titan erfüllt oder nicht erfüllt. Sie rufen nicht um Verstärkung. Sie verstärken andere nicht.
3. DER GROSSMEISTER
Brother-Captain Damaskos Naga ist dreihundertachtzig Jahre alt. Er ist einer der wenigen Veteranen der Gründungsjahrhunderte, der noch die Stimme des Obersten Großmeisters von Angesicht zu Angesicht vernommen hat. In seinen frühesten Erinnerungen liegt das Jahr M30.882. Die Heresy war noch jung. Der Warp war noch vorhersehbar.
Naga wurde nicht zum Großmeister gewählt. Es gibt keine Wahl unter den acht. Nach dem Tod seines Vorgängers — einem Bruder namens Kaestren, der auf Tythonis bei einer fehlgeschlagenen Bannung fiel — erschien ein Immaterialer Bote an Titan und sprach Nagas Namen aus. Der Oberste Großmeister bestätigte es. Das war alles.
Seine psionische Disziplin ist die des stillen Sehers — Psionische Stille, wie die Bibliothekare es nennen. Er kann den Warp nicht wie ein Scriptor lesen oder wie ein Sturmseer des Khan reiten. Stattdessen hört er auf, was der Warp nicht hört. Er schafft um sich eine Zone der Blind-Stille, in der Dämonen taub werden wie sterbliche Menschen in der Dunkelheit. Der Preis dafür ist, dass er selbst nicht sehen kann, wenn er diese Kraft nutzt. Er kämpft blind. Nach dreihundertachtzig Jahren kann er im Dunkeln kämpfen, besser als die meisten Brüder im Licht.
Die Stille hat ihn verändert. Er spricht wenig — nicht aus Geheimhaltung, sondern weil Sprache für ihn eine externe Sache ist, etwas, das die Stille bricht. Die anderen Großmeister beraten sich über Jahrzehnte hin. Naga trifft Entscheidungen in Wochen. Er verliert Brüder schneller, weil er nicht wartet.
Er hält die Schuld der Bruderschaft — einen Schwur, den die First Brotherhood vor vierhundert Jahren schwor und den sie seitdem jeden Tag zahlt. Das Gewicht dieser Schuld ist in seinem Gesicht zu sehen, auch unter dem Helm. Es ist nicht Trauer. Es ist Ordnung.

Trupp Sacrum unter Justicar Trupp Argentum ist die schnelle Antwort der Bruderschaft. Sie tragen Aegis-Rüstung und kämpfen mit Nemesis Force Weapons in klassischen Formen — Kraft-Halberde, Kraft-Schwert und Schild. Argentum selbst ist ein Veterane von sechzehn Jagden. Intern heißt es von ihm, dass er jeden Bluthhund von Khorne persönlich kannte, bevor er ihn tötete. Das ist wörtlich gemeint.
Trupp Kastor unter Justicar Trupp Aeternus sind die Luftfallschirm-Jäger der Bruderschaft. Sie nutzen die Interceptor-Technologie — Kraft-Rüstung, die Warp-Sprünge in kurzen Abständen erlaubt — um Dämonen zu stoßen, nicht ihnen nachzujagen. Aeternus hat das rechte Auge im Warp verloren und sieht jetzt zweifach: einmal mit fleischlichem Auge, einmal mit psionischem Sehen in die Immaterium hinein. Das macht ihn tödlich in Kammergefechten. Intern wird gemunkelt, dass sein Sehen die Dämonen selbst führt — dass sie sehen, was er sieht, und das macht ihnen Angst.
Die Paladin-Veteranen-Zelle unter einem nicht benannten Kastellan sind das Herz der Bruderschaft in dieser Stunde. Sie sind acht Brüder in Terminatorrüstung, jeder mit einer Nemesis Doomglaive oder einem Nemesis-Dämonenhammer. Sie sind die Letzte Reserve. Sie werden nur in Szenarien aufgerufen, bei denen ein ganzer Trupp von Strike Squads gefallen ist oder die Dämonologie zu esoterisch für einfache Kraft-Waffen ist. Sie kämpfen in Zeilen, nicht einzeln. Sie kennen sich gegenseitig so lange, dass sie fast die Gedanken lesen können — und das können sie tatsächlich. Sie sind alle Psyker. Zusammen bilden sie ein stilles Geflecht, das Dämonen in klassischen Warp-Formen festhält.
Der Contemptor-Dreadnought, ein alter Gefährte namens Kellus, wurde von einem Bruder der First Brotherhood bewohnt, der bei der Verfolgung der Khorne-Jagdhunde 891.M31 ein Daemon Prince-Urteil nicht überlebte. Kellus selbst ist neunhundertachtzehn Jahre alt. Er ist langsamer als die jüngeren Dreadknights, aber seine Waffen sind älter und unlustiger. Er wird nur aufgeweckt, wenn die Bruderschaft selbst bedroht ist — nicht für Tagesaufgaben.
Die Apothecarion-Wache unter Apothecarius Vex behandelt nicht nur Wunden. Sie führen Gedächtnis-Prüfungen durch. Sie sammeln die Progenoiddrüsen der Gefallenen. Sie dokumentieren die letzten Worte. Sie sind nicht am Kampf direkt beteiligt — Vex selbst ist mit neunzig Jahren der jüngste Bruder der Bruderschaft — aber sie bestimmen mit, wer erinnert wird und wie.
Die ungebundenen Kader bestehen aus jenen Brüdern, die keiner Standardformation zugeordnet sind — etwa Strafkompanien-Veteranen der Deathwatch, Brüder, deren Psionische Disziplinen zu sonderbar sind, um sie in Trupps zu integrieren, oder einfach Krieger, die Großmeister Naga direkt unter sich führt. Sie sind zweiundsechzig an der Zahl und die größte, jedoch am wenigsten strukturierte Formation der Bruderschaft.
Die Ordensschreibstube unter Prognosticar Mazon ist nicht kämpfend. Sie sind die Männer der Aufzeichnung. Neun Brüder, alle Psyker, alle mit der Fähigkeit zur Geschichtsschreibung und zur Dämonologie-Lexikographie ausgebildet, führen die Archive der Bruderschaft. Niemand außer dem Obersten Großmeister kennt den genauen Umfang dessen, was sie aufbewahren.
Jeder Bruder ein Psioniker
In der First Brotherhood gibt es keinen Guerilla-Kämpfer, keinen Spähter, keinen Infanteristen, der nur das Bolter-Geschoss vertraut. Der schwächste Novize der Bruderschaft kann den Warp berühren. Diese Tatsache ist nicht eine seltene Spezialisierung — sie ist das Eingangstor. Wer hier eintritt, bringt bereits die Fähigkeit mit, Dämonen zu sehen und zu berühren, bevor sie sich materialisieren.
Das bedeutet in der Praxis, dass die First Brotherhood kämpft, ohne zu kämpfen — oder besser gesagt: sie kämpft zuerst in der Psionischen Ebene und dann erst im Materium. Wenn Trupp Sacrum gegen einen Dämon vorrückt, haben Argentum und seine Brüder bereits vier verschiedene Warp-Angriffe versucht. Sie verdrängen, bannen, zwingen und desorientieren den Feind lang, bevor Nemesis-Waffen das Fleisch treffen. Das macht sie langsam im konventionellen Sinne, aber es macht sie auch zäh wie keine andere Formation.
Der Preis ist tödlich. Ein Psyker, der im Warp kämpft, öffnet sich für Gegenschläge, die andere Brüder nicht sehen können. Ein Psyker, der zu lange in der Immaterium bleibt, kann vergessen, dass sein Fleisch noch ein Anker hat. Die First Brotherhood verliert Brüder nicht im Kampf — sie verliert sie zu den Warpstürmen, die sie aufgerissen haben. In den letzten vier Jahren sind sechzehn Brüder diesem stummen Tod gestorben: lebendig, aber bereits gegangen.
Großmeister Naga antwortet auf diese Verluste nicht mit Vorwürfen. Er notiert sie. Er überträgt ihre Namen in die Schweigende Liste — ein Archiv, das niemand außer dem Obersten Großmeister je liest.
5. BEKANNTE BRÜDER
Justicar Trupp Argentum, Anführer von Trupp Sacrum
Argentum ist fünfhundertvierundneunzig Jahre alt, und sein Körper trägt die Narben aller sechzehn Jagden, auf die er die First Brotherhood geführt hat. Seine rechte Hand ist nicht mehr Fleisch — es ist eine Servo-Prothese aus dem Jahre 156.M31, eine Arbeit des Adeptus Mechanicus von Mars selbst, auf Befehl des Obersten Großmeisters erneuert. Sein Nemesis Force Halberd führt er linkhändig. Seine psionische Disziplin ist die Bannformung — die Kraft, einen Dämon nicht zu vernichten, sondern in seiner Bewegung einzufrieren.
Ich habe Khorne-Jagdhunde gekannt, die lernten, Angst zu kennen. Das war der schlimmste Feind: ein Dämon, der weiß, dass er sterben kann.
In der Schlacht von Othrant Prime M31.447 führte Argentum Trupp Sacrum gegen eine Konföderation von drei Bloodlettern und einen Namenlosen Blutzeugen. Die Jagd dauerte achtzehn Stunden. Argentum selbst fiel dreimal — dreimal wurde er von seinen Psionern zurückgebunden in den Körper. Als der Dämon endlich gebannt war, sagte Argentum: „Wir sind mit ihm älter geworden." Kein anderer Bruder der First Brotherhood hat diese Worte verstanden. Argentum hat sie nie wiederholt.
Apothecarius Vex, Apothecarion-Wache
Mit neunzig Jahren ist Vex der jüngste Bruder in der First Brotherhood. Er ist nicht kämpfend eingeteilt worden — seine psionische Disziplin ist zu schwach für den aktiven Dienst — aber sein Gabe ist seltener und kostbarer: Er kann sterben und sehen, was danach kommt. Ein Bruder, der bei einer Jagd verletzt wird und in die Nähe des Todes kommt, wird von Vex gelesen. Er erfährt, was der Bruder im Moment vor dem Tode sah. Auf diese Weise dokumentiert die First Brotherhood nicht nur ihre Siege, sondern auch ihre Niederlagen — die Wahrheit der Tode, nicht die von Zeugen bereinigten Versionen.
Der Dämon war schon tot. Nur der Bruder wusste es noch nicht.
Das hat Vex auf den Totenlisten notiert für einen Bruder namens Karren, der in M31.289 gegen einen Dämonen-Fürsten der Nurgle-Saat fiel. Kein anderer hätte diesen Satz verstanden. Der Oberste Großmeister hat ihn archiviert.
Brother-Captain Damaskos Naga, Großmeister der Bruderschaft
Naga ist zu alt für jeden normalen Rang. Der Titel „Bruder-Hauptmann" stammt aus jener Zeit, als er noch unter anderen kämpfte. Jetzt kämpft er allein — oder besser: mit sechsundsechzig Brüdern, die wissen, dass sie nicht sein Gefolge sind, sondern seine Gedächtnisträger.
Seine Nemesis Force Halberd ist die älteste Waffe der Bruderschaft. Sie trägt die Namen aller neunzehn Dämonen, die Naga mit ihr gebannt hat, eingeätzt in das Psycho-Gitter. Sie funktioniert nicht wie die Halberden anderer Brüder — sie ist langsamer, schwerer, älter. Aber wenn sie trifft, tötet sie Dinge, die eigentlich unsterblich sind.
Ich werde sterben, ohne dass die Imperium es bemerkt. Und das ist richtig.
Er hat das nie laut gesagt. Ein Librarian las es in einer seiner Gedächtnisprüfungen. Es wurde notiert, aber nicht archiviert — es gehört nicht in die Bücher. Es gehört in die Schuld, die die First Brotherhood trägt.
6. DÄMONENJAGDEN
Jagd Eins: Das Verstummen von Othrant Prime

Othrant Prime war eine Pflanzenwelt, registriert im Zehnt des Adeptus Administratum. Die Bewohner waren landwirtschaftliche Tithe-Zahler, nichts Besonderes. Sie merkten nicht, dass ein Warp-Riss sich in ihrem östlichen Gebirgsmassiv öffnete.
Trupp Sacrum unter Justicar Argentum wurde vor Ort geschickt, nachdem die lokale Astra Militarum bereits verloren hatte. Was sie fanden, war kein gestrandeter Daemon — es war etwas, das sich materialisiert hatte und beschloss zu bleiben. Ein Blutzeugen der Khorne-Jagdhunde, nicht benannt, nicht gezählt, einfach da, mit dem Hunger von drei Stunden Materialform hinter sich.
Die Jagd war eine Niederlage auf drei Ebenen: im Warp durch Bannungen, die nicht hielten; im Fleisch durch Nemesis-Waffen, die glitschten und nicht trafen; in der Seele durch Verzweiflung. Nach vier Stunden war Bruder Karthen tot — nicht besiegt, sondern gebrochen, körperlich und psionisch. Argentum selbst fiel zweimal, wurde von den anderen Justicars zurückgebracht.
Am Ende banno Argentum den Dämon nicht. Argentum fror ihn ein — ließ die Bannformung über das Wesen hinwegrollen und hielt ihn in der einen Sekunde, wo er nicht lügen konnte. In dieser Sekunde wurde er gebannt. Der Riss schloss sich.
Danach war Othrant Prime leer. Die gesamte Bevölkerung — viertausendachthundert Männer, Frauen und Kinder — wurde von der Inquisition aufgenommen, weil sie eine dämonische Manifestation gesehen hatten. Keine Augenzeugen-Berichte schriftlich fixiert. Keine Umschrift. Sie wurden alle der Mem-Auslöschung unterzogen. Was sie von Grey Knights gesehen hatten, wurde aus ihrem Denken gelöscht. Was sie von dem Blutzeugen gesehen hatten, auch.
Was übrig blieb, waren Farmland, Getreide und das Gedächtnis in der Ordensschreibstube der First Brotherhood: Bruder Karthen, gestorben M31.447. Der Dämon war älter als die Häresie. Der Bruder war braver.
Jagd Zwei: Die Kettenbrüche bei Kaldrath

Kaldrath war ein Bergbau-Konglomerat, nicht auf den imperialen Karten für seine Sicherheit bekannt. Das machte es umso schlimmer, als sich dort ein Warp-Leck zeigte — in der Tiefe einer Erzmiene, achthundert Meter unter der Oberfläche, eine Spalte, aus der Blutfeuer kam.
Die erste Astra Militarum-Kohorte, die hinabging, kam nicht heraus. Die zweite berichtete von Klängen wie zerreißendes Fleisch, die durch die Felsen hallten. Die Inquisition rief die First Brotherhood auf.
Dies war eine Langzeitjagd — keine Kurzstossoperation. Die Brüder gruben in die Tiefe ein. Großmeister Naga führte die Expedition persönlich an. Was sie fanden, war schlimmer als erwartet: nicht nur Dämonen, sondern eine gesamte Pact-Struktur — ein ritual-geometrisches Netzwerk, das aus verfluchtem Fleisch gewebt war und das Warp-Leck offen hielt.
Die Jagd dauerte neun Monate. Die First Brotherhood sprang zwischen Verbannungsritualen und direktem Kampf hin und her. Am Ende gelang es ihnen, zwei der Blutzeugen zu bannen, aber der Daemon Prince — ein uralter Ting mit dem Namen Vex-Khoth — sprang in die verbleibende Warp-Spalte und entkam. Der Riss wurde versiegelt, aber nicht bereinigt.
Die Kosten: neun Brüder gefallen, dreizehn verwundet bis zur Behandlungs-Unterversorgung. Die First Brotherhood wurde danach zu ihrem Außenposten im Saturnin-System geschickt — nicht als Strafe, sondern als Quarantäne. Der Oberste Großmeister wollte, dass sie sich regenerieren konnten, weit weg von neuem Feuer.
Das hat nicht funktioniert. Fünf Jahre später tauchte Vex-Khoth wieder auf — in einem anderen Sektor, in einem anderen Riss. Die First Brotherhood wusste, dass er noch lebte, weil die Ordensschreibstube es vermerkt hatte.
Jagd Drei: Blutgrube am Rand der Saturninen

Dies war keine dämonische Jagd im klassischen Sinne. Dies war eine Invasion.
Der Saturnin-Sektor, wo die First Brotherhood ihren Außenposten hatte, wurde von einer wohl-organisierten Menge von Khorne-Jagdhunden überfallen. Sie kamen nicht für die Brüder — sie kamen für etwas, das die Brüder hatten. Die Ordensschreibstube. Die Archive. Die aufgezeichneten Namen und Ritualpfade aller Jagden.
Die First Brotherhood fiel in Verzweiflung. Sie verloren Bruder für Bruder. Justicar Argentum war während dieser Kampagne zweiunddreißigmal verwundet. Großmeister Naga betrat persönlich zum ersten Male seit hundert Jahren den Warp selbst — eine zutiefst tabuisierte Tat, weil es ihm hätte den Verstand kosten können.
Aber es funktionierte. Mit seiner stillen Sicht in die Immaterium blendete er alle sechzehn Jagdhunde gleichzeitig. Sie konnten nicht sehen. Sie konnten nicht hören. Sie starben, blind und stumm, nicht wissend, dass sie sterben.
Der Preis war ein entscheidender: Die First Brotherhood verlor zehn Brüder in diesen siebenundvierzig Tagen. Sie sanken unter ihre gesetzliche Sollstärke. Und das, was die Jagdhunde gesucht hatten, entkam — Teile der Archive wurden korruptiert, einige Namen verbrannt, einige Rituale gelöscht. Der Oberste Großmeister hat das Ausmaß des Verlustes nie veröffentlicht.
Danach wurde die First Brotherhood anders. Sie wurden nicht erbitterter — sie wurden stiller. Sie wurden zu einem Archive, das sich selbst bewacht.
7. GEHEIMHALTUNG UND IHR PREIS
Die First Brotherhood existiert nicht. Niemand außer dem Obersten Großmeister und den acht Großmeistern der Grey Knights weiß, dass sie gibt. Der Imperium kennt die Grey Knights, kennt vielleicht die Purifiers, kennt vielleicht die Terminatoren. Der Name „First Brotherhood" erscheint in keinem Kodex, in keinem Archiv der Inquisition, in keinem Munitorum-Register.
Diejenigen, die die Brüder sehen, werden gehandhabt. Überlebende von Schlachtfeldern, auf denen die First Brotherhood kämpfte, werden der Inquisition übergeben. Die Inquisition entscheidet dann über ihre Verwendung: Mem-Auslöschung, Abordnung, in extremen Fällen stille Beseitigung. Aber das ist nicht die Sache der First Brotherhood. Das ist die Sache des Ordo Malleus.
Was die First Brotherhood trägt, ist eine andere Last: das Wissen, dass die Auslöschung durchgeführt wurde. Ein Bruder der Ordensschreibstube notiert, wenn Zeugen gelöscht werden. Die Summe derzeit: viertausendsechtausendachtundneunzig.
Der psychische Preis ist tödlich. Ein Bruder der First Brotherhood kann nicht einfach eine Schlacht hinter sich lassen, weil er weiß, dass jede Schlacht gelöscht wird. Ein Bruder kann nicht an die Zukunft denken, weil er weiß, dass seine Vergangenheit bereits ausgelöscht wurde. Großmeister Naga hat einen Kult etabliert, nicht im religiösen Sinne, sondern als Praktik: die Stille-Mahlzeit. Einmal pro Monat sitzen die Brüder zusammen in der Ordensschreibstube und sagen ihre Namen laut vor. Sie sagen ihre Taten laut. Sie sagen die Namen der Toten laut. Für drei Stunden existieren sie in einer Realität, wo Erinnerung nicht gelöscht wird.
Danach wird alles wieder still.
Das ist nicht Trauer — Trauer wäre ein Luxus. Das ist Ordnung. Das ist die Stabilität, die notwendig ist, damit die Brüder nicht in die Psychose verfallen, die sonst eine solche Existenz mit sich bringt. Der Preis wird täglich gezahlt. Und niemand außerhalb der Bruderschaft weiß, dass er gezahlt wird.
8. RITEN UND ÜBERLIEFERUNG
Die Schuld der Vergeltung — ein Schwur, den die First Brotherhood im Jahr M31.204 ablegte, nachdem ein Moment der Gedächtnis-Schwäche erlaubt hatte, dass ein Daemon Prince — Schattenfürst der Veränderung — zweimal gebannt werden musste. Beim zweiten Male gelang es nicht. Der Fürst entkam in die Tiefe des Warp, und es brauchte drei weitere Jagdhunde der Grey Knights, um ihn später zu finden. Die First Brotherhood schwor danach: Jeder Fehler ist ein Fehler zweimal — einmal auf dem Feld, einmal in der Erinnerung. Sie dürfen keinen Feind zweimal vergessen. Sie dürfen keine Jagd zweimal falsch machen. Wenn sie das tun, müssen sie sich selbst davon berichten — und der Bericht ist das Schlimmste, was einem Bruder geschehen kann: öffentlich zu wissen, dass man versagt hat, ohne dass diese Tatsache außerhalb des Archivs jemals bekannt wird.
Das Stillfasten vor Einsatz — Drei Tage vor jeder Jagd betreten die beteiligten Brüder eine Kammer namens die Schweigende Halle und sprechen kein Wort. Sie meditieren in der Immaterium-Präsenz. Sie stärken ihr psychisches Gerüst. Sie werden nicht gebunden — sie binden sich selbst an die Wahrheit, dass sie zurückkommen werden, oder sie werden notiert. Das Stillfasten ist keine religiöse Praktik. Es ist eine Vereinbarung mit dem Fluch der Erinnerung: Ich komme zurück, oder ich werde erinnert.
Die Litanei der Aussonderung — Wenn ein Bruder fällt, wird sein Name in den Schwarzspiegel eingetragen — ein Archiv, das niemand lebt, um zu lesen. Gleichzeitig wird ein anderer Name aus dem aktiven Register in die Schweigenden Listen übertragen. Die Brüder der First Brotherhood wissen nicht immer, wer ihre Brüder sind — nicht alle von ihnen sind real in dem Sinne, dass sie noch leben. Einige sind bereits von der Inquisition notiert worden. Sie sind Brüder ohne Rückkehr, und sie sind genauso präsent wie die Lebenden. Die Bruderschaft ist immer neunundneunzig Brüder stark — neunundneunzig im Gedächtnis, egal wie viele im Fleisch.
9. DESIGN-BIBEL
- Rüstungsfinish und Farbe: Silber-graue Aegis-Rüstung, eine Graustufe, die zwischen dem Glanz polierter Waffen und dem Matt des Betons pendelt. Ältere Brüder haben Tiefenvergoldung in den Gelenken — nicht aus Eitelkeit, sondern als Schutzrune. Die First Brotherhood trägt auf der Brust ein silbernes Buch, dessen Seiten Schwert und Flamme widersprechen. Bannrune in weiß-rot an den Schultern.
- Silhouette: Kraft-Rüstung wie bei allen Grey Knights, aber älter getragen. Die First Brotherhood hat mehr Veteranen mit Terminatorrüstung als andere Bruderschaften — achtzehn Prozent ihrer Truppenstärke kämpft in Terminator-Panzerung, massiv, rechteckig, älter. Zwei-Hand-Nemesis-Waffen sind üblich. Eine Halberde in den Händen eines Bruders der First Brotherhood sieht aus wie ein Werkzeug der Gedächtnisarbeit, nicht einer Schlacht.
- Heraldik: Buch und Schwert übereinander auf grauem Grund, umgeben von Bannwächter-Siegel in Silber. Auf der Rückseite jedes Helms die Zahl der Jagden, die dieser Bruder überlebt hat. Keine Namen auf den Rüstungen — Namen sind Archive, nicht Dekorationen.
- Nemesis-Waffen: Die First Brotherhood bevorzugt Halberden und Schwerter mit Bannverstärkung. Psycannon sind selten, Psilencer noch seltener. Die Waffen sind älter — viele stammen noch aus der Gründungszeit — und tragen Kratzer und Reparaturstellen. Jede Waffe hat ein Gedächtnis, und Großmeister Naga sorgt dafür, dass es gepflegt wird.
- Drei spezifische Markierungen: (1) Tiefe Kratzer an den Armschienen — nicht aus Kämpfen, sondern aus Archivarbeit, aus Jahrtausenden des Schreibens in Gedächtnisstein. (2) Silberne Bänder um die Waffen, auf denen Namen stehen, von Dämonen und von Brüdern, lesbar nur unter magischer Vergiftung. (3) Eine Schwärzung an der rechten Seite der Rüstung, nicht von Feuer, sondern von Warp-Kontakt — die Stellen, wo die Immaterium geleckt hat und Narben hinterlassen hat.

10. DIE BRUDERSCHAFT AUF EINER SEITE
Die First Brotherhood ist das Gedächtnis der Grey Knights in einem Zeitalter, wo Gedächtnis eine Waffe ist, die tödlicher ist als jede Nemesis-Waffe. Neunundneunzig Brüder — eine Zahl, die nicht wächst, seit zehn Jahrtausenden — unter Großmeister Damaskos Naga, einem Veteranen von dreihundertachtzig Jahren. Sie existieren in der Immaterium und im Archiv zugleich: nicht im Fleisch lebend, sondern als Notiz in den schwarzen Büchern der Ordensschreibstube.
Sie wurden aufgebaut, um zu tun, was keine andere Formation tut: zweimal zu sehen. Einmal im Kampf, einmal in der Erinnerung. Sie kämpfen gegen die Bluthunde Khorne's — nicht nur mit Nemesis-Waffen, sondern mit Bannformen, die nur Psyker verwenden können. Sie verlieren Brüder wie alle anderen Brüder, aber ihre Toten sind nicht Tote: Sie werden in die Schweigenden Listen übertragen, als wären sie noch vorhanden.
Der Preis ist ein tägliches Sterben. Ein Bruder der First Brotherhood weiß, dass wenn er in den Kampf geht, das, was er sieht, aus der Imperium gelöscht wird. Die Zeugen werden der Inquisition übergeben. Die Erinnerungen werden ausgelöscht. Das Einzige, was bleibt, ist der Name in den Archiven — und selbst das ist stumm und geheim.
Nach vierzigtausend Jahren würde ein überlebender Soldat, der die First Brotherhood sah, vielleicht sagen: „Ich traf Geister, die meine Gedanken aßen — und es war ein Segen." Aber niemand wird das jemals sagen, weil niemand das jemals erinnern wird.
