Description
In 997.M30 a patrol of the XIX Legion operating under the formation designation Death Spectres was put down on Barbarus. Its tasking was route reconnaissance of the lowland approaches below the toxic cloud-line and confirmation of reported subterranean structures of non-human manufacture. Command had no confirmed enemy presence in the area of operations. Prior surveys had logged the structures as inert.
The patrol was commanded by Lieutenant Naxiel Drennarc. It deployed without heavy support beyond its attached Dreadnought, consistent with a reconnaissance mandate. Drennarc's last scheduled report confirmed contact with a sealed structure in the lowland fog belt and stated that his force intended to establish an observation post on the high ground above it.
