Description

The Krourk Ogryn Auxilia comes from Krourk, a high-gravity steppe world whose gravity has over millennia produced a particularly brutal strain of abhumans classified as Ogryns. In times of crisis the Imperium simply gathers them up by landing ship: entire tribes are rounded up and thrown into battles light years away, without regular training, proper equipment or a command structure of their own.

The Ogryns are deployed almost exclusively in close combat, armed with crudely made heavy close-combat weapons. Because they can barely tell friend from foe, they are regarded as a risky weapon in large numbers; usually only one or two squads are attached to existing regiments. Between battles they are kept heavily sedated, and the greatest problem is regularly not victory but rounding up the Ogryns again before their lust for violence turns on their surroundings. Only twice has the entire Auxilia been deployed as one, among them in the destruction of the Emcarta bases — with devastating collateral damage. Captain Hobart-Gibbling of the Pyran Dragoons compared the order to do so to ordering Exterminatus.

In the Third War for Armageddon (from 998.M41) Krourk Ogryns on the Netheria Peninsula were to attack the Ork runways of Orkwik Airfield by shuttle, while the Arphista Penal Legion landed on the SS Icerok and destroyed its engines with thermal charges. Only one shuttle got past the Ork fighter-bombers; its Ogryns tore through Bogsnik's Blitz Brigade in an orgy of violence, but then wiped themselves out when one of them fired his Ripper Gun into a stack of fuel drums. The Auxilia is known from the worldwide campaign “Third War for Armageddon” and from “Apocalypse” (2013).

Additional Information

Homeworld

Krourk (high-gravity steppe world; over millennia the gravity produced a particularly brutal strain of abhumans classified as Ogryns)

Nickname

Described by Imperial officers as a “primitive form of doomsday weapon”

Specialisation

Pure assault and close-combat deployment. Hardly any officer tries to teach them how to operate a Ripper Gun; instead, crude close-combat weapons are made for newly raised units. En masse they tear apart lightly armoured vehicles and bring down smaller buildings. Since they can barely be controlled, usually only one or two squads are attached to existing formations

Principal equipment

Crude, hastily made primitive close-combat weapons; Ripper Guns only rarely. Neither regular training nor proper equipment or command structure. Between battles the Ogryns are kept heavily sedated, which worsens their temper further once they are let off the leash

Commanders

No officer corps of its own; the Auxilia is attached squad by squad to other regiments

Notable members

From other formations: Captain Hobart-Gibbling (Pyran Dragoons) — quoted as comparing an order to deploy the entire Auxilia to ordering Exterminatus

Battles and events

Destruction of the Emcarta bases during the rebel uprisings — one of only two occasions on which the entire Auxilia was unleashed on an enemy; Third War for Armageddon (from 998.M41): on the Netheria Peninsula shuttles were to carry the Ogryns against the Ork runways of Orkwik Airfield while the Arphista Penal Legion disabled the SS Icerok; only one shuttle got past da Red Nob and the Ork fighter-bombers. The Ogryns who landed tore through Bogsnik's Blitz Brigade but wiped themselves out when one of them fired his Ripper Gun into a stack of fuel drums
