Description

Indiga, the home of the Indigan Praefects, is today a Death World — and a man-made one. Planetary Governor Constantine Principa Argoy had breeding pairs bought of every dangerous creature he could obtain from the worlds of the Ultima Segmentum and displayed them in vast zoos. A devastating earthquake destroyed the enclosures; the predators escaped into the wilds, multiplied and interbred into new, even more dangerous hybrids.

To protect the population, the Praefects developed over generations a refined art of hunting oversized predators, for which they wear specially adapted carapace armour and in which veterans personally instruct their recruits — for instance in how to bring down a Carnifex with well-aimed lascannon fire. It is precisely this skill that makes them sought-after reinforcements wherever Tyranids, Greyva or other beasts threaten Imperial worlds.

The Indigan 47th has distinguished itself so greatly in bringing down Lictors that it bears the nickname “Lictor Killers”. Regiments of the Praefects fought in the War of Beasts on Vigilus and in the Octarius War and defended the Volushun Shipyard. They are known from Codex: Astra Militarum, which introduced them in 2017 among the “Regiments of Distinction”, from the 9th edition codex and from “Psychic Awakening: The Greater Good”.
