Homeworld(s)
Olympia, a mountainous civilised world of warring city‑states in the Ultima Segmentum, later turned into a dead world by Iron Warriors missile bombardments. After the Heresy, Medrengard in the Eye of Terror serves as their daemon/fortress world, surrounded by bridled fortress‑worlds such as Brigannion Four, Laurentix and Bairsten Prime.
Combat Doctrine(s)
- Extreme focus on siege warfare: systematic use of artillery, armour, fortifications and engineering to methodically break enemy strongholds. Individual heroics and psychic warfare are of little value
- discipline, firepower and attrition are paramount.
Epochs & Role
In the Great Crusade they serve as the Imperium’s siege hammer, breeding deep resentment. During the Heresy they massacre Olympia, fight at Isstvan V, Phall and Terra, then wage the Iron Cage war against the Imperial Fists before Perturabo’s ascension as a Daemon Primarch. In the Scouring they withdraw into the Eye of Terror and build an ‘Empire of Iron’. In M41/M42 Warsmiths prosecute the Long War from Medrengard, notably in the siege of Hydra Cordatus and assaults into Ultramar.
