Homeworld(s)
The Inwit system (especially the icy fortress/feudal world of Inwit) as the original recruitment base; already during the Great Crusade effectively fleet‑based around the star‑fort Phalanx. After the Heresy, Terra is the official home, but in practice Phalanx and recruiting worlds such as Inwit, Necromunda and other core planets serve as the Chapter’s base.
Combat Doctrine(s)
- Masters of siege and defensive warfare: constructing and holding fortifications, methodically reducing enemy strongholds, disciplined bolter drill and stubborn line defence. Highly capable in void warfare and boarding actions around capital ships and star‑forts.
Epochs & Role
In the Great Crusade they serve as the Emperor’s praetorians. During the Heresy they form the core of the defence at the Siege of Terra. In the Scouring they prosecute retribution wars against traitors, fight the Iron Cage battle against the Iron Warriors and then accept the Codex Astartes and split into several Second Founding Chapters. In M32 they are nearly destroyed in the War of the Beast and rebuilt via the Last Wall protocol; in M41/M42 they defend Terra, fight in the post‑Cadia campaigns and take part in the Indomitus Crusades.
Successor Chapters / Warbands (Overview)
- 2nd Founding: Crimson Fists, Black Templars, Fists Exemplar, Excoriators plus the reduced parent Chapter, the Imperial Fists. 3rd Founding/early successors: Executioners, Iron Knights, Subjugators. Later notable sons of Dorn: Hammers of Dorn, Astral Knights, Celestial Lions, Sons of the Phoenix (all‑Primaris Ultima Founding), Soul Drinkers (later renegade).
