Definition
On Vandau, the miner who measures the ventilation and sends the shift up when it stands badly. In the soldiers' speech of the First Vandauer Shaft Rifles the word passed to the regimental commissar — not as an insult: they do not want him gone, they only do not want him to have to measure. It describes the regiment's practice of settling incidents before the commissar himself does.
