Sythrael is a world that was already dead when the cohort of Praetor Ares Vantine stranded on it. Ancient records — as far as they could be deciphered at all — point to a pre-Imperial civilisation that was wiped out millennia ago by an unknown xenos power.

No population of its own. The Rictus Choir is the population: a few thousand brothers and the retinue they keep from captured ships, castaways and defectors. The world has produced no one since its builders died.
