Description
Kaelthran — also known as the Breathless World or the Ash World — is a dying high-temperature binary system with two red giants. The planet itself is a sphere of immense volcanic activity. The atmosphere is a biting carbon dioxide fog, laced with particles of lava and burnt rock.

Fauna & Flora
No flora; in the heated domes greenhouse vegetables in ash soil, and in the ventilation shafts nests a grey bird that the settlers call “breath-witness”.
Population & Society
Some tens of thousands of people in glazed dome settlements that supply the Breathless World with respirators and filters. Whoever is born receives a mask before the first cry; the Ash Sentinels choose their candidates among those who do not cough in the ash storm.
