Description

Grendhol is a mining world without any notable surface atmosphere outside the shaft cities: icy winds over bare rock, cities that dig hundreds of metres into the crust, where warmth and air must be made artificially.
Home world of: 224th Grendhol (regiment).

Fauna & Flora

Bare rock above ground; in the shaft cities mushroom gardens under lamps and cellar woodlice that love warmth. The guildsmen do not feed them, but neither do they drive them away.

Population & Society

Guilds by shaft and depth, with the foreman as authority, whose instruction decides between life and suffocation. The knockers' guild, blind listeners who detect collapse danger from the sound of the rock, once counted thirty squads of three; after the last levy, nine remained.
