Description
Brakmoor is a hive world whose surface is covered by salt water. The islands are slag remnants of a mining operation from the early Dark Age of Technology, too large to be mined out and too small to be fertile. The population is packed into hive concentrations on these islands and into undersea habitats, bubbles of air pumped by machines that hardly anyone still repairs. Salt aerosol eats metal and lungs alike.

Fauna & Flora
Salt marsh on the slag islands, kelp on the quay walls and brine shrimp in the basins of the lower hives; gulls that nest at the pump houses and no longer shy from the aerosol.
Population & Society
Some tens of millions, packed into hive compactions on slag islands and in undersea air bubbles pumped by machines that hardly anyone still repairs. Brakmoor lost its salt masters: of thirty-six craftsmen who carried one process, six remain.
